The best DIY coffee scrub for flaky or dry winter skin

Between the chaos of the holidays, building a business, and homeschooling my 4 kiddos, my face has taken a hit (figuratively, of course, besides the occasional rubber ball my boys toss around the house during playtime).

So, I finally decided to do my dry winter skin a favor and spend some time doing a relaxing self-care routine this past Sunday night.

However, when I went to pull out my favorite coffee scrub from Earthley, I found it empty – courtesy of my dear pre-teen daughter who loves ALLLL things self-care-related.

But, I'm not one to give up easily when I’ve put my mind to something (and trust me, I was DETERMINED to make this self-care routine happen).

So, being the DIY queen, I decided to make my own version of this scrub.

The only 4 ingredients you need to make my DIY coffee scrub!

Grab your ingredients:

½ cup ground organic coffee (can be already brewed grounds or freshly ground/from the bag)
½ cup organic cane sugar, brown sugar would work as well
¼ cup organic coconut oil, melted
5 drops vanilla essential oil, or ½ tsp vanilla extract
5 drops lavender essential oil, or sub in your favorite EO

Combine the ingredients in a bowl and stir until well-mixed. It’s THAT easy!

How to use your DIY coffee scrub on your face to improve dry or flaky skin:

Apply the scrub all over your face and let it sit for 5-8 minutes. You can do this in the shower, but I prefer to do it in the living room while my husband looks at me, wondering whether or not he wants to open a can of worms by asking what the heck I have smeared all over my face.

After allowing it to sit on your skin, massage it around your face for about a minute (be gentle!), then wash off with a washcloth and warm water.

I find that coconut oil can be a bit, well, OILY, so I’m careful to wash my face realllllly well with warm water after all the scrub is removed. It's also best to do this at night so the oils can sit on your face all night to absorb.

Personally, I like to finish off my self-care nights with a few drops of Earthley’s Rejuvenate Me face serum, a heating pad, and a functional mocktail (stay tuned – I’ll be covering this in a later post!).
